About Us

The primary purpose of our organization is to work with African communities and like-minded organizations with projects desired by the Africans themselves, in which they have input and ownership, within the realms of health, education, spiritual development and agriculture to achieve more productive and healthy societies in West Africa. We currently support
- A limb prosthesis program for amputees
- Health and conservation worker Denice Klein Douwel
- Churches in Burkina Faso and Northern Ghana
- The Baptist Medical Center in Northern Ghana
- The Bone Setter's Village in Northern Ghana
Friends of West Africa was formed in 2007 by John and Amy Purl and Vince Waite, former career missionaries to Ghana. The organization works with available funding resources and the African communities themselves to assist these communities in improving their living conditions.
Activities are currently conducted in Northern Ghana and Burkina Faso using contracted workers and/or a partnership with other organizations with the available human resources. Some are seasonal, some continuous. Both private individual funds and foundation grants are solicited.
None of the money collected for projects is used for administration of those funds. We are all volunteers.
Friends of West Africa International, Inc. is a public charity under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and incorporated and registered in the state of Mississippi, USA, and the Republic of Ghana.
Matthew 25: 35,36 For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me.
